For any visual artist pricing the result of hours of love and labor is a difficult task. It’s best to consider several viewpoints before you actually start putting together all your time and supply numbers. Visit a gallery and see how the art dealer values comparable objects or artworks. Chances are the gallery owner will take your wholesale price and multiply by 2.3 to achieve their actual retail price. Retail fair pricing is often deeply discounted from the prices in any art gallery or museum shop. You must know your “actual perceived value” in the best gallery opportunity you can find. The farther away from home your work is… the higher the value!
