New York City Workshop 9/27-28

This two-day intensive program on the business of art features nationally-known experts in the field, speaking on topics of interest to creative entrepreneurs who are launching or growing their businesses.

Speakers include: Wendy Rosen, founder of The Arts Business Institute, Carolyn Edlund, Executive Director of ABI, and special guests Rhonda Schaller and Stacy Simbrom.

We’d like to introduce our guest speakers:

Rhonda SchallerRhonda Schaller is an internationally recognized artist, alternative gallerist and educator.  She is the author of numerous articles and books including Create Your Art CareerCalled or Not, Spirits Are Present, Alternative Exhibition Strategies, Tools for Success, Freelancing Basics, Creative Visualization and Career Planning, and An Insiders Guide to the NY Art World, among others.

She is the Director, Center for Career & Professional Development at Pratt Institute; Director, Schaller + Jaquish Art Projects; Founder, Create Meditate;  faculty for the Entrepreneurship Certificate at Pratt Institute, and has had an extensive career teaching and mentoring artists.

Her presentation will be “How to Have a Fine Arts Career.”  Workshop attendees will be taught how to self-manage a fine arts career, create a strategic plan, learn how the gallery system works and how to approach the right ones. Topics will include: Taking charge of your professional life, How to assemble the essentials, Circulating your work, Peer networking, How to introduce your work to the professional community, Gallery representation, How to build long-term professional relationships.

Stacy SimbromStacy Simbrom is an artist and the owner of Angels with Attitude. She creates a line of whimsical sculptural which has been carried by galleries and retailers all over the country. Stacy is a long-time exhibitor at the American Made Show (formerly the Buyers Market of American Craft) which is the largest trade show for handmade work in the U.S. She is a frequent mentor to new artists entering the wholesale marketplace.

Her presentation is “Booth Design and Merchandising” and will include important tips for creating an eye-catching display in your retail or trade show booth, visual merchandising; color and layout; lighting; effective use of signage, and more.
