Mickie Workman Scholarship Announced for Winter Workshop

Group ShotEach year artists, gallery owners and members of the community are invited to sponsor Arts Business Institute scholarships for artists.

This year the  Arts Business Institute honors the memory of Mickie Workman, the first art director for the Rosen Group and mother of Wendy Rosen. This new scholarship is open to artists and artisans in any medium. The scholarship covers full tuition for the upcoming Winter Workshop in Philadelphia, taking place concurrently with the Buyers Market in February, 2013.

Mickie helped launch the Buyers Market of American craft and played an indispensable role in growing the company,  as well as being the first art director for NICHE Magazine.

Mickie contributed greatly to the creation of NICHE Magazine. “She got me started in the publishing business,” says Wendy Rosen, “She had a background in this type of work, and taught me how to do paste-up work.”

Mickie 1960

Early in her own career as a professional artist, Mickie Workman was a prolific  illustrator for coloring book publisher Whitman Sawfield, in the 1960s.  She will be remembered as a tireless supporter of artists and for her many contributions to furthering their careers.

Applications for the scholarship will be received until the deadline of January 15, 2013, at which time a winner will be chosen. The scholarship will be awarded based on the quality of craftsmanship shown in images submitted with the application. A link to the artist’s website or other URL where their work can be seen will be requested with submission.
