This celebration of craft in America includes artists, retailers, organizations and the public.
Are you planning to participate in American Craft Week? This year activities devoted to celebrating and recognizing American craft will take place over a sixteen-day period with plenty of opportunity to become involved. Sponsored by Craft Retailers and Artists for Tomorrow (CRAFT) this 7th annual event brings awareness to creative work that is handmade in the USA.
Participants in all 50 states will be hosting events ranging from exhibitions, studio visits and tours, craft classes and demonstrations, as well as invitations to meet artists in galleries and at festivals. Find a state-by-state list here of activities taking place during American Craft Week in your own local area.
Arts organizations throughout the country will be participating in various ways. Sadie Bliss, Executive Director of Maine Crafts Association explains, “Our organization implemented Maine Craft Weekend as a statewide American Craft Week event. We encourage Maine craft studios, breweries, businesses and events to be open to the public and share a behind-the-scenes look at our community to celebrate American Craft Week each October.”
Recently 30 young craft artists were recognized as “Rising Stars” by the sponsors of American Craft Week, with an impressive online showcase featuring their bios and portfolios.
The American Craft Week sponsors also named “America’s Top 10 Towns for Craft Lovers 2016” – check the list and see if you agree!
